Mainz Striker Anthony Ujah Reaches Bundesliga Milestone Against FC Augsburg
Published: February 04, 2019Super Eagles striker Anthony Ujah celebrated a milestone despite Mainz losing 3-0 to Augsburg on game week 20 in the Bundesliga on Sunday, February 3.
The Mainz number 20 played his 100th game in the Bundesliga after coming off the bench to replace Mateta in the 58th minute.
Ujah made his first Bundesliga appearance while defending the colours of Mainz against SC Freiburg on August 13, 2011 after transferring from Lillestrom, where he scored goals aplenty.
The former Warri Wolves star finished the 2011-2012 season with 12 appearances to his name, scoring two goals.
To date, Ujah has recorded 36 Bundesliga appearances for Mainz and played 32 games each for past clubs Cologne and Werder Bremen in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 season respectively.
Ex-Hansa Rostock, VfB Stuttgart and VfL Wolfsburg star Jonathan Akpoborie is the Nigerian with the most appearances in the Bundesliga with 144, and Ujah could break that record as early as next season if he remains in the Bundesliga and gets more games under his belt.
The 28-year-old Ujah has tallied 25 goals in 100 Bundesliga games.
