Libya coach Adel Amrouche has requested that the important 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria in October should be played at the Stade Omar Hamadi in Algers, Algeria.
Allnigeriasoccer.com has compiled six interesting facts about the Stade Omar Hammadi:
1) The stadium is the home ground of USM Alger, a club Amrouche represented in the 1990s, it was opened in 1935 during the French occupation of Algeria and it was called the Stade Communal de Saint Eugène between 1935 and 1962 and Stade de Bologhine (1962-1998).
2) The stadium was designed by Manuel Monoz Monastiero, Louis German Soller and Antonio Lamela.
3) Stade Omar Hamadi has been renovated more than once and has been expanded from 9,000 to 12,000 and now holds 17,000 spectators.
4) In 1998, the stadium was renamed from Stade de Bologhine to Stade Omar Hamadi in honour of the former president of the club who was killed along with two of his sons in Bouzria in Algiers by a terrorist group in 1995.
5) The record attendance at the stadium is 25,000, a match between USM Alger and JS Kabylie in January 2005.
6) Stade Omar Hamadi has an artificial playing turf, the length of the pitch is 105m and the width is 64m.
