Published: September 11, 2018Nigeria defeated Liberia 2-1 in an international friendly match at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia on Tuesday night.
President George Weah of Liberia led the Lone Star out for the international friendly, donning the Number 14 jersey that was retired today.
Weah's old team mate James Debbah was also on the pitch for the Lone Star. As expected every touch of the ball by Weah was greeted with loud cheers and applause.
Henry Onyekuru found the right top corner of the net to fire the Super Eagles into the lead.
Lanky striker Simeon Nwankwo headed in the second goal of the night for the three-time African champions.
Daniel Akpeyi, Ebube Duru, Kelechi Iheanacho, Adeleye Olamilekan, Samuel Kalu, Mfon Udoh and Sunday Adetunji all came off the bench to contribute their quotas to the game.
Eagles should have scored more in the opening half hour in the second half but they were wasteful in front of goal.
With one minute left on the clock, Liberia reduced the deficit.
