How Super Eagles Coach Rohr Stopped Ahmed Musa From Joining Chinese Club
Published: August 04, 2018Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr advised former Leicester City striker Ahmed Musa to snub a transfer to China before he agreed terms with Saudi club Al-Nassr.
According to Saudi Arabian sports newspaper Al-Riyadiyya, the Nigeria international had offers from five other clubs, four from England and the biggest deal was from a Chinese team.
Musa contacted Rohr, who is close to his new agents, before choosing Al-Nassr; the German football tactician advised him to remain in the English Premier League or move to Saudi Arabia.
Rohr had argued that the distance from China to Nigeria will force Musa to travel for a full day before reporting for international duties, adding that he may lose his spot in the national team if he played for the Chinese club.
In truth, two Super Eagles stars, captain Obi Mikel (Tianjin Teda) and striker Odion Ighalo (Changchun Yatai) have complained of being travel-weary each time they travel to Africa for international matches.
The 25-year-old Musa is expected to link up with his new teammates at Al-Nassr early next week following a successful medical.
