Akpom Receives Green Light From PAOK Medics To End 16-Year Association With Arsenal
Published: August 01, 2018Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom has passed a medical examination at Greek Super League club PAOK, paving the way for him to end his sixteen-year association with Arsenal.
Gazzetta.gr reported on Wednesday morning that PAOK are expected to confirm the acquisition of Akpom and their agreement with Arsenal for the 22-year-old on Thursday.
Some bureaucratic and procedural issues around the contract not related to the transfer fee and duration of the deal prevented PAOK from announcing the transfer before their trip to Switzerland for a Champions League qualifier against Basel.
Akpom will be hoping PAOK reach the next round of the competition as the lure of playing in the Champions League motivated him to choose the club ahead of his other suitors, including Sint-Truiden.
He played on loan at Brentford, Coventry City, Nottingham Forest, Hull City and Brighton & Hove Albion during his time at Arsenal and spent the second half of last season at Sint-Truiden.
