Chelsea 1 Liverpool 0: Nigeria's Best Moses Outshines African Player Of The Year Salah
Published: May 06, 2018Chelsea moved within two points of fourth-placed Tottenham after grinding out a hard-fought 1-0 win over Liverpool in their Premier League clash on Sunday.
Super Eagles Victor Moses made his 24th Premier League start for Chelsea in the encounter while Nigerian Football Federation target Dominic Solanke started on the bench for Liverpool.
Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were the other Africans on parade at Stamford Bridge.
The Nigerian looked electric for much the opening exchanges, racing to the byline after 14 minutes to pull back a low cross which Tiemoue Bakayoko and Olivier Giroud failed to make the most of.
But the Super Eagle would then create space for himself on the right yet again, turning away from Andy Robertson to find Giroud with an inch-perfect cross which the Frenchman glanced home with 32 minutes on the clock.
Dominic Solanke who came on for the last 16 minutes nearly grabbed a dying minute equalizer for the Reds, getting onto the end of a Sadio Mane cross but agonizingly sent it wide off target.
Moses who picked up a booking in the 81st minute was replaced by Davide Zappacosta in the 89th minute.
