Madrid CFF Whizkid Of Nigerian Descent Okoye Named In Spain Squad For U17 Euros
Published: May 06, 2018Madrid CFF wonderkid of Nigerian descent Mabel Okoye has been named in Spain's U17 squad for the 2018 UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship which begins in Lithuania on May 9.
The 16-year-old and six other strikers will fight it out for the attacking spots during the tournament which acts as the UEFA qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
The talented teenager netted three goals for the Spanish side against Montenegro and Israel in the qualifiers for the U17 Euros.
Okoye has made four appearances for the first team of Madrid CFF in the Primera División Femenina and was included in the match day squad seven times.
She will travel with her teammates to to Lithuania on Monday, and they will face Italy, England and Poland in the group stage.
Nigeria will not be playing for the first time in the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup after the Flamingos lost on the away goals rule to Cameroon in the final round of the African qualifiers for the tournament.
