Nigerians At Huddersfield Could Increase To Four With Cub In Talks With Leon Balogun
Published: April 30, 2018Leon Balogun could be playing in the English Premier League as from next season, with reports that Huddersfield Town are interested in signature.
The Sun UK claims that Huddersfield are ready to sign Mainz ace Leon Balogun on a free deal as first swoop for next season and have held initial talks with the central defender over a move.
German coach of the Terriers David Wagner already has four of his countrymen at the club in the shape of Chris Löwe, Collin Quaner, Christopher Schindler and Michael Hefele and is set to add Balogun, who is in the possession of a German passport, to the roster.
He did business with Mainz in the summer transfer window, signing Denmark international goalkeeper Jonas Lössl on a season-long loan.
Balogun's contract with Mainz ends in the summer and there has been no word from the defender categorically stating that he will extend his stay at the Rhineland-Palatinate club.
The 29-year-old did not command a transfer fee when he joined Türkiyemspor, Hannover 96, Werder Bremen, Fortuna Düsseldorf, Darmstadt 98 and Mainz, and this trend is set to continue based on recent developments.
Denmark U21 star of Nigerian descent Philip Billing plays for Huddersfield Town's first team; Andrew Ijiwole and Mustapha Olagunju will be scholars there as from the 2018-19 season.
