Liverpool Star Doubtful For England Vs Nigeria Friendly With Knee Injury
Published: April 25, 2018England might be shorthanded for their next international match against Nigeria at the National Stadium in London on June 2 after Liverpool provided an injury update on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The midfielder's hopes of representing the Three Lions at the World Cup are in doubt after he suffered a serious knee injury in the Champions League semifinal clash against Roma on Tuesday night, which led to his substitution in the 18th minute.
Oxlade-Chamberlain started England's friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy last month and would have been called up for the glamour friendly with the Super Eagles.
''Oxlade, it’s probably a really bad injury,'' Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp told BT Sport, according to Liverpool's official website.
''If we can say that already before the scan, that’s never good news so that means for us it’s a massive blow, of course.
''We have still a few very important games to go and the squad doesn’t get bigger in the moment, so we obviously need to be creative in the next few games.''
Nigeria duo Leon Balogun and Joel Obi are presently listed as out, while Henry Onyekuru, Tyronne Ebuehi and Eddy Onazi are not match fit after picking up injuries.
