EFL Awards: The Beast Is Nigeria's Best Player Outside EPL After Terrorizing Defenses
Published: April 16, 2018Wycombe Wanderers frontman Adebayo Akinfenwa can officially be regarded as Nigeria's most outstanding English-based player outside the Premier League this season.
The 35-year-old was included in the Football Manager Team of the Season across the EFL, that is Championship, League One and League Two, at the EFL Awards ceremony that took place at the London Hilton on Sunday night.
Earlier, Akinfenwa had been named in the League Two Team of the Season before those selected were condensed into one starting line-up.
The Beast was a runner-up in the League Two Player of the Season category, won by Accrington’s Billy Kee.
Despite his age, Akinfenwa has continued to terrorize defenses in League Two, he has remained as prolific as ever, scoring 17 goals in 40 appearances for Wycombe Wanderers who have hopes of automatic promotion to the League One.
The striker will be 37 at the end of next season, with Wycombe Wanderers recently confirming that he has inked a new one-year deal.
