Borussia Dortmund To Arsenal: Break The African Record For European Transfers To Sign Striker
Published: January 21, 2018Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund do not intend to part with Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the January transfer window for less than €70 million, according to German newspaper Bild.
Dortmund have confirmed that the Gunners have approached them for the services of the 2015 African Footballer of the Year.
''There was a contact with Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazidis, where he informed me that he would like to speak with us. That has not happened yet. There are no current discussions,'' said Hans-Joachim Watzke, CEO of Dortmund.
Arsenal have made the first bid in the region of €50 million for the transfer of Aubameyang, but this amount has been deemed insufficient by the German club.
The top scoring African in the history of the Bundesliga has not figured for Dortmund in 2018 due to disciplinary reasons.
If Arsenal meet Borussia Dortmund's asking price for Aubameyang, he would become the most expensive African transferred within Europe and the second most expensive African player.
Including tax obligations, Chinese club Beijing Guoan ended up spending 74 million euros to sign the most expensive African in history Cédric Bakambu from Villarreal this month.
