The Sun has published photographs obtained from Sky Sports where the Armenian skipper was pictured at a central London hotel alongside agent Mino Raiola ahead of his move to the Gunners.
Arsenal number seven Alexis Sanchez will move in the opposite direction in the swap deal.
The 29-year-old Mkhitaryan was not in United's squad vs Burnley and said his farewells to his teammates prior to Saturday's game at Turf Moor.
His contract with the Red Devils would have expired in the summer of 2020 if he had remained with the club.
Previously, he wore the jerseys of Pyunik, Metalurh Donetsk, Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Dortmund.
