Daniel Akpeyi Stranded In Lagos, To Join Up With Super Eagles Wednesday
Published: November 07, 2017Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Chippa United glovesman Daniel Akpeyi will no longer join the Super Eagles at their training camp in the Moroccan capital on Tuesday due to a flight hitch.
Akpeyi was present at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos early this morning but was informed by Royal Air Maroc that he will now be traveling to Rabat on Wednesday morning.
The flight will take off at 0430 hours Nigerian time and the estimated flight time is four hours, excluding time for airport formalities, meaning the South African-based goalkeeper is expected to have his first training session with the national team on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old has been brilliant for Chippa United this term after recovering from injury, posting five shutouts in nine matches across all competitions.
Akpeyi was in between the pipes when Nigeria beat Algeria 3-1 last November and had been tipped to return to the starting line-up on Friday due to the inactivity of Ikechukwu Ezenwa.
The Super Eagles will start their preparations for the World Cup qualifier against the North Africans on Tuesday evening.
