Algeria Working On Immediate Dismissal Of Coach Ahead Of Nigeria Clash
Published: October 11, 2017The Algerian Football Federation are working on the immediate dismissal of coach of the Desert Foxes, Lucas Alcaraz, before their final World Cup qualifier against Nigeria in November.
According to Le Buteur, FAF are unhappy with the mediocre results since he was appointed coach in April, with the national team losing three World Cup qualifiers against Zambia and Cameroon, and failing to qualify for next year's African Nations Championship.
The Board members of the Algerian Federation will hold a meeting on Wednesday and it is envisaged that they will announce the Spaniard's sacking after the deliberations, but the stumbling block is the financial compensation.
Lucas Alcaraz has argued that it was not stated that he has to qualify for the World Cup and CHAN when he negotiated his contract, and must be paid the totality of his wages until the end of his contract in 2019 if he is fired.
Algeria's next competitive fixture is against Nigeria at Stade Mohamed-Hamlaoui (Constantine) on November 10, and it is mathematically impossible for the North Africans to qualify for the tournament in Russia.
The Super Eagles beat their next opponents 3-1 last year in Uyo, with Victor Moses (2) and Obi Mikel finding the net.
