Real Madrid 4 Manchester United 2 : Spanish Powerhouse Lead
Published: August 08, 2017The UEFA Super Cup final between Real Madrid and Manchester United at Philip II Arena, Skopje on Tuesday night will be the eleventh meeting between the two European powerhouses.
The Champions League holders have been superior to the current Europa League champions in the number of wins, four compared to Manchester United's two,while four games were drawn.
In the semifinals of the European Cup on April 11, 1957, Los Blancos beat Manchester United 3-1, and held them to a 2-2 draw in the return leg at Old Trafford two weeks later.
In 1968, the two clubs faced off again in the last four of the European Cup, George Best scored the only goal in United's 1-0 win and they fought back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 in the second leg in Spain.
In the last seventeen years, Real Madrid and Manchester United have met six times in the UEFA Champions League, with the Spanish side winning three, drawing two and losing once.
Real Madrid have lifted the Super Cup three times - 2002, 2014, 2016 - compared to just the one of Manchester United in 1991.
