Liverpool Coach Klopp Hails Scouts Who Recommended Solanke : I Had No Idea About Him
Published: July 20, 2017Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he had little or no knowledge about Dominic Solanke before he was recommended by the club's scouts.
Despite his reputation as one of the top youngsters in Europe, the England U20 star was frozen out of the first-team picture at Chelsea after he refused to sign a new deal.
Klopp had to rely on footage of Solanke playing on loan at Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem and the Young Lions before he gave his green light for the striker to be signed.
''Everyone in England knew him but I had no idea about him. I started to learn more and more and I trust the guys around us, the scouts, so I said: 'Let’s do it.'' Klopp was quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.
''I've seen a lot of skilled boys in my life and he looks like a nice project.
''Everything is really good, really clear. He’s extremely football smart and focused. You see the movement.
''He has to improve in a lot of ways but he's a good boy.''
Solanke netted his first goal for The Reds in their 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in a Premier League Asia Trophy clash in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
