Liverpool-Bound Striker Of Nigerian Descent Targets World Cup Award Previously Won By Messi
Published: June 10, 2017Liverpool-bound striker Dominic Solanke is facing the biggest game of his career when England U20 national team tackle Venezuela in the final of the Fifa U20 World Cup.
Italy's Riccardo Orsolini is in pole position for the prestigious Golden Shoe, awarded to the top goalscorer in the competition, but the Chelsea talent will overtake him if he bags a brace against the South Americans tomorrow at the Suwon World Cup Stadium and the Juventus wonderkid fails to find the back of the net.
The likes of Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Oleg Salenko and Javier Saviola have won the Golden Shoe in previous tournaments and Solanke would be hoping to match their achievement.
“I haven’t thought about being the top goalscorer, ” Solanke told thefa.com.
“I’ve just been focusing on winning, but that would be a really good achievement for me and I would love to do that.
“After that win we’re all confident we can now go on and win on Sunday. ”
There's still intrigue in the race for the Golden Shoe as Everton's Ademola Lookman is also in the running, having scored three goals.
