Leicester Coach Explains Why Ndidi Did Not Feature Against Everton
Published: April 10, 2017Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare has explained that he had to
make five changes to the team that lost 4-2 to Everton on Sunday because
of the busy fixture schedule.
In preparation for two of the biggest games in the club history, the Champions League quarterfinals versus Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, Wilfred Ndidi failed to start a Premier League game for the first time since his arrival in England.
“I think the team selection was with the games coming up in mind. We’ve got a lot coming up – Wednesday, Saturday and Tuesday – but we’ve got a good squad,” Shakespeare told Leicester’s official website.
“Players have had to be patient and the idea was that whichever team we field who try to be competitive and try to win the game.
“We didn’t come to try to get a point, the team was picked to try to get three points. The selection was about squad rotation more than anything else. ”
The 20-year-old Ndidi underlined his importance to the Premier League champions by starting and lasting the distance in the last round against Sevilla.
