Balogun, Bukayo, Amaechi On Target As Arsenal Win Liam Brady Cup
Published: April 03, 2017Three players of Nigerian heritage Bukayo Saka, Xavier Amaechi and Folarin Balogun were among the standout performers that helped Arsenal U16s win the Liam Brady Cup this past weekend.
The competition was organized by the Gunners to mark the opening of their refurbished Hale End Academy, with Manchester United, Juventus and Bayern Munich also participating.
In their first game of the mini-tournament, Arsenal thrashed Bayern Munich 4-2 and Balogun had opened the scoring before Bukayo gave the hosts a 4-1 lead from the penalty spot.
Bukayo scored a brilliant goal as Arsenal beat Manchester United in their second game. The London team qualified for the final despite losing to Juventus in their third match.
In a reversal of fortune, England U16 star Xavier Amaechi netted the winning goal in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Juventus in the final game.
The games were played over two halves of twenty minutes each.
