London Football Awards (Player Of The Year) : Aluko, Akinde Miss Out; Alli Loses To Kante
Published: March 02, 2017Nigerian strikers Sone Aluko and John Akinde have missed out on English Football League Player of the Year at the 2017 London Football Awards.
The Fulham striker and Barnet sensation were nominated for the award on the back of their fine form for their respective clubs since the start of this season.
At a gala ceremony on Thursday night, Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney was handed the award after beating the Nigerian nominees, Scott Hogan (former Brentford) and Alex Smithies (QPR).
Young Player of the Year Dele Alli lost out to Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante in the Premier League Player of the Year category.
Chelsea striker Eniola Aluko is the only player born in Nigeria that stands a chance of winning an award tonight, with Alex Iwobi missing out on the Young Player of the Year.
