Ndidi Performs Admirably On Champions League Debut As Leicester Score Vital Away Goal
Published: February 22, 2017English Premier League champions Leicester City have given themselves a fighting chance of qualifying for the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League following a 2-1 loss to Sevilla on Wednesday night.
Two Nigeria internationals, Ahmed Musa and Wilfred Ndidi, started the Round of 16, first leg tie at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.
After 14 minutes, Sevilla were handed an opportunity to take the lead when Wes Morgan fouled Correa in the box, but the Argentine midfielder saw his spot kick saved by Kasper Schmeichel.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 25th minute after a wonderful header into the bottom corner from Pablo Sarabia beat the Foxes Danish goalkeeper.
Ndidi gave Leicester City an encouraging sign when he volleyed a shot on target in the 50th minute, only for the keeper to save it. Compared to the first half, the Nigerian saw the ball more in the second half.
On 62 minutes, Joaquin Correa made amends for his penalty miss in the first half when he doubled the Spanish side’s advantage, scoring from close range after a hopeful ball into the box.
Sevilla’s lead was halved with 17 minutes left on the clock when Vardy found himself in a good position before firing home from close range.
