AFCON Winner Efan Ekoku Is Most Expensive Player Ever Sold By Sutton United
Published: February 21, 2017Former Nigeria international Efan Ekoku remains the most expensive player ever sold by non-league team Sutton United.
Bournemouth, who were managed by Harry Redknapp at that time, paid 100,000 pounds to secure his signature from Sutton United back in 1990.
Ekoku enjoyed success on the pitch at Bournemouth and later transferred to Norwich City, Wimbledon, Grasshopper, Sheffield Wednesday and Brentford.
Undoubtedly, the highlight of his career was winning the African Cup of Nations title with the Super Eagles in Tunisia 1994, and he was also a member of the squad at the World Cup that same year.
Other players of Nigerian descent who have represented Sutton United include Moses Odubajo,Tom Bolarinwa, Chukki Eribenne, Solomon Taiwo and Andy Salako.
The Yellows caused a sensation when they qualified for the fifth round of the FA Cup but crashed out of the competition on Monday night after losing 2-0 to Arsenal.
