Youngest Footballer Of Nigerian Descent To Play In EPL : I Was Not Nervous On My Debut
Published: February 20, 2017The youngest player of Nigerian descent to feature in the English Premier League, Sunderland striker Joel Asoro, has revealed that he was not quaking in his boots when he was handed a run-out in the clash against Middlesbrough.
On August 21, 2016, the Sweden U21 international stepped out onto the Stadium of Light pitch aged 17 years 03 months 25 days, beating the record previously held by Bournemouth’s Jordon Ibe in the process.
“It was so much different when you are on the pitch. It was a very good atmosphere, ” Asoro said to Sunderland YouTube channel.
“I wasn’t really nervous, just wanted to play my game. I think I am going to play the next game, just go and work hard and earn it.
“The academy has taught nearly everything, how to grow up as a player, do whatever you got to do, you need to care of yourself.”
Asoro has featured four times for the first team of Sunderland in all competitions so far this season.
