Ex-Everton Star Yakubu : I Found It Difficult To Return To Form After 2010 AFCON
Published: February 19, 2017Out-of-favour Nigeria international Yakubu Aiyegbeni has revealed that he found it difficult to adjust to the Premier League whenever he returned to England from the African Cup of Nations.
The Coventry City number 22 does not have a good view about the pitches in Africa, adding that it took him up to two weeks to get back to form.
“It is quite difficult to come back from an Africa Cup of Nations in the middle of the season. It’s a different kind of football and you have to change your mentality for the tournament, ” Yakubu told evertonfc.com
“It can be difficult in Africa - a lot of the pitches aren’t great which makes it tough.
“I found it took two or three weeks to get back up to full speed after returning, which I think is the case for a lot of players.”
Yakubu was part of the Super Eagles squad at four African Cup of Nations tournaments, with his last appearance being the 2010 edition in Angola.
