Nigerian Striker Appears In Court Over Match-Fixing Charges, Sister Works In A Nigerian Bank
Published: February 14, 2017Pembroke Athleta team manager Uchenna Anyanwu appeared in court on Monday, February 13 in connection with attempting to fix a match between his team and Mosta.
Anyawu, who was born in Nigeria but has lived in Malta for the past thirteen years, is being accused of trying to bribe Mosta players to throw the game which they eventually lost 5-0.
The Nigerian striker was denied bail despite the fact he is married with three kids, and his wife is expecting another child.
Independent Malta has reported that the court was also requested to freeze the his assets, both in Malta and abroad, since his sister works in a bank in Nigeria.
Uchenwa Anyawu represented Dingli Swallows, Vict. Hotspurs, Zebbug Rangers, Kirkop United and Msida SJ prior to his appointment as team manager of Pembroke Athleta.
