Official : Portland Timbers Re-Sign Versatile Nigerian Defender Okugo
Published: January 23, 2017Versatile Nigerian defender Amobi Okugo has been re-signed by Major League Soccer club Portland Timbers, ahead of the 2017 season.
The former USA U23 international has accumulated 139 league appearances since his debut in the American topflight, scoring 5 goals and providing 7 assists.
“Amobi will continue to give us experience and depth in two positions and when called upon like last year, we know he has the ability to step in and get the job done,” Timbers head coach Caleb Porter said.
Okugo joined Portland Timbers in 2016 after a brief spell with New York Red Bulls, and has also featured for Philadelphia Union, Orlando City and Sporting Kansas City.
Gbenga Arokoyo and Fanendo Adi are the remaining Nigerians on the books of Timbers.
