Nigerian Midfielder Dubbed The New Obi Mikel, Uwakwe On Target Again For Chelsea
Published: December 14, 2016England U18 international Tariq Uwakwe continued his brilliant run of form with a goal in Chelsea’s 5-0 rout of Cardiff City in the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday evening at Aldershot.
Having played several games for the U18s in recent weeks, the midfielder started on the bench and was introduced before the start of the second half with Chelsea looking for an insurance goal and aiming to protect their slim one-goal advantage.
Uwakwe doubled the Blues advantage twelve minutes out of intermission, finishing off a move he had started, before Ike Ugbo scored two more goals in the space of five minutes.
In the first week of December, the 17-year-old netted on his debut for the U23s in their win versus FC Nuremberg, and has found the net three times in the U18 Premier League.
Because of Uwakwe’s versatility in midfield and defense, he has drawn comparisons with Super Eagles skipper John Obi Mikel.
