Exclusive: Watford Star Ighalo Ruled Out Of Olympic Games,As Siasia Picks Mikel,Ahmed Musa &Efe Ambrose
Published: April 22, 2016Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Watford striker Odion Ighalo will not be representing the Dream Team VI at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Ighalo was snubbed by Nigeria U23s manager Samson Siasia when he shortlisted 60 names for the competition in Brazil, meaning he has been totally ruled out of playing for the Dream Team, with the former Nantes striker stating that he will not select any player outside the provisional squad list sent to the Nigeria Football Federation.
Though Siasia earlier pronounced that Ighalo is being considered as one of the three players above the age limit after plundering goals aplenty for Watford in the Premier League, it is thought that the Hornets number 24 was never contacted by the coach regarding representing his team.
Celtic defender Efe Ambrose could win his second medal at the Olympic Games, having been named in the roster as one of three over-aged players, while this website can confirm that Chelsea star Obi Mikel and CSKA Moscow striker Ahmed Musa have been included as well.
At Atlanta 1996, Emmanuel Amuneke and Uche Okechukwu were the players above the age limit, Garba Lawal and Godwin Okpara were the experienced players in 2000 while Peter Odemwingie was the only player more than 23 years picked for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
