Super Eagles Admit Mistakes, Appeal To Fans Not To Turn Their Backs On National Team
Published: March 30, 2016The Super Eagles and Nigeria Football Federation have apologized to Nigerians and supporters of the national team following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon.
The Samson Siasia-led side have acknowledged that the fans are disappointed and have pleaded with them not to turn their backs on the Super Eagles, with the 2018 World Cup qualifiers resuming in the next seven months.
“We apologize for our inability to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. We gave this campaign our best efforts but sadly fell short,” the Super Eagles said in a statement.
“We know how disappointed our fans are and we feel their pains too but we ask that they forgive us and never stop getting behind us in future.
“Now, our focus is to get these setbacks behind us and quickly regroup for the fast approaching 2018 World Cup qualifiers starting in October.”
The Pharaohs of Egypt now lead Group G of 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifying with an unassailable five points following their 1-0 victory over the Super Eagles in Alexandria on Tuesday night.
