Alex Iwobi Thanks England As Nigeria Cap-Tie Midfielder
Published: March 25, 2016Arsenal attacking midfielder Alex Iwobi was pleased to make his competitive debut for the Super Eagles in their 1-1 draw with Egypt on Friday evening.
Having represented England at youth level in friendly matches, the 19-year-old’s second-half appearance in Kaduna means he can no longer play for the Three Lions.
The Hale End Academy product had been approached by the English FA to pledge his international future to England shortly before his trip to Africa but he rejected their advances to play for the Super Eagles.
“Unlucky not to win but happy to have made my competitive debut for Nigeria #SuperEagles.
“Would also like thank you to England for giving me the chance to represent them â��ð��½,”Iwobi said on social media.
The Arsenal number 45 now has three caps for the senior national team of Nigeria, against DR Congo, Cameroon and Egypt.
