3SC, Crown Confront 20 Others In State FA Cup;As Oyo FA Earns NFF Commendation
Published: March 03, 2016
20 teams in Oyo State have registered to compete along with the defending champion, Shooting Stars and the Ogbomoso professional side, Crown FC at this year’s State Federation Cup.
The organizer of the tourney, Oyo State Football Association disclosed this at a draws ceremony held in its Lekan Salami Sports Complex Ibadan where 3SC was drawn against Liberty Football Academy and Crown FC battles Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) in the round of 16.
The total number of the teams that will be competing in the annual and oldest football tourney in the country is 22 according to the Oyo FA boss Chief James Odeniran who claimed the number was one of the highest to be registered by a state FA in Nigeria, the development which has earned the Oyo FA a commendation from the Nigeria Football Association, (NFF).
“We used to have as much as 40 to 50 teams that used to register and participate in the Oyo FA Cup annually, by the prevailing hard economic circumstance in the country responsible for the small numbers of teams we have this year, but despite that Oyo is still among the state that has highest numbers of teams in the country.
“We even got a pat in the back from the NFF after seeing the numbers of clubs registered for our State’s FA Cup.
“We also look forward to reward the winners in this year’s edition with cash prizes as we are seriously working on getting sponsor for the tourney”, Odeniran, a retired FIFA referee noted.
