Olofinjana Drops Big Hint Taiwo Awoniyi May Be Loaned Out By Liverpool, Amid Interest From Kalmar
Published: January 09, 2016Retired Nigeria international Seyi Olofinjana has refused to rule out the possibility of Liverpool attacker Taiwo Awoniyi severing his ties with FSV Frankfurt before the close of the January transfer window.
The German 2 Bundesliga club announced the arrival of the Nigeria youth international with pride hours leading up to the close of the summer transfer market.
Since that transfer was completed, Awoniyi has found game time difficult to come by, with only a paltry 18 minutes of game time under his belt, which came in a DFB Pokal clash between FSV Frankfurt and Hertha BSC in October.
“At the moment, Taiwo Awoniyi is a player of Liverpool and has been loaned to FSV Frankfurt, we are weighing his options, ” Olofinjana told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“Wherever Liverpool want to send him to, they can.”
Swedish Allsvenskan side Kalmar have been mentioned as a possible destination for the Imperial Academy product, especially as they have a player exchange agreement with Liverpool.
A representative of Kalmar said to allnigeriasoccer.com : “They took the boy elsewhere, he was supposed to be at Kalmar .
“Now he has seen the difference the way he has been treated by FSV Frankfurt, he wants to go on loan.”
The 18 - year - old Awoniyi has played more games for the national team, the Under 23s squad, since his move to Europe but he is at risk of being dropped from the Olympic Games squad given his lack of inactivity at FSV Frankfurt.
