Dream Team Star Etebo Oghenekaro Surprised To Win Most Promising Talent Award
Published: January 08, 2016Warri Wolves star Etebo Oghenekaro has admitted that he was pleasantly surprised to win the Most Promising Talent of the Year Award at the Glo-CAF Awards held in Abuja on Thursday night.
The Nigeria Under 23 international saw off competition from teammate Azubuike Okechukwu, Mahmoud Abdelmonem ‘kahraba (Egypt), Djigui Diarra (Mali) and Zinedine Ferhat (Algeria) to win the accolade.
“I didn’t have any premonition I’ll win the award but I felt so happy that I won the award, ” Etebo told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“The fact I won the award doesn’t mean I am the best among the nominees but just that I was lucky. ”
It is believed that the attacking midfielder was picked ahead of other contenders after he sparkled at the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations , especially in the final against Algeria where he notched a brace.
Several of his international teammates and manager Samson Siasia were busy with their phones after the ceremony at the International Conference Center in Abuja.
“No, I have not heard from Azubuike but my colleagues congratulated me, even the chief coach Samson Siasia.
“I am dedicating the award to my family, friends and a brother to me Endurance Ogbemudia, ” Etebo concluded.
The 20 - year - old Oghenekaro Etebo has repeatedly informed this website that he hopes to sign for an unnamed European club in the winter transfer market.
