Exclusive : CS Sfaxien Ahead Of Boavista In Race For Golden Eaglets Star Lukman Zakari
Published: December 28, 2015
Nigeria Under 17 international Lukman Zakari’s quest to join a foreign club may materialize in the January transfer window, as the defender and his minders are studying offers from Tunisian Ligue 1 side CS Sfaxien and Portuguese setup Boavista.
CS Sfaxien are thought to be frontrunners for the signature of Zakari but the stumbling block is that the central defender’s brothers have opposed the move, stating that they would prefer him to begin his professional career with a European team.
That said, Boavista have invited the Golden Eaglets star for trials expected to last for about two weeks, with a view to being offered a deal if successful.
Lukman Zakari’s intermediary, Babawo Mohammed, has learnt from his past mistakes and has more or less sanctioned his move to CS Sfaxien.
After the 2013 Fifa U17s, one of his clients, Zaharadeen Bello, was offered a contract by a Croatian club but he turned down the proposal, and the player later had unsuccessful trials with Porto and other European teams that had been keen on his signature.
“Lukman Zakari’s brothers said they want him to join a European club but the most concrete interest we have now is from CS Sfaxien, ” Babawo Mohammed told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“He will sign a direct contract with CS Sfaxien while Boavista want him to come for trials. ”
A product of Unity Academy, Zakari appeared seven times for the Golden Eaglets in Chile and was not cautioned in a single game.
