Fifa Admits Bronze Boot Was Erroneously Awarded To Kelechi Nwakali
Published: December 01, 2015Fifa has admitted that it erroneously awarded the Bronze Boot of the 2015 Fifa Under 17 World Cup to Golden Eaglets skipper Kelechi Nwakali instead of teammate Samuel Chukwueze.
Both players were tied at three goals and three assists at the end of the competition but Nwakali had racked up more minutes - 630 minutes in total - compared to Diamond Academy starlet Chukwueze, who had 535 minutes of game time.
“We made a mistake at the closing ceremony of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Chile 2015 with the distribution of the Adidas Bronze Boot.
“Instead of player no. 8 of Nigeria, Samuel Chukwueze, the player Kelechi Nwakali (player no. 10 of Nigeria) received the adidas Bronze Boot.
“However, if two or more players are still equal (after goals and assists), the player who has played fewer number of minutes will be ranked first.
Fifa will send another Bronze Boot later this month which would be handed over to Chukwueze, while Nwakali may keep his trophy.
