Sani Kaita, 10 Others Named To Nigeria Professional Football League Team Of The Week
Published: June 22, 2015
Allnigeriasoccer.com picks the star performers of the weekend and puts them together as the Team of The Week.
Friday Achimugwu - Giwa FC
Giwa FC is blessed with quality keepers, with the likes of Olorunleke Ojo and Friday Achimugwu in their ranks.
Achimugwu used everything at his disposal to deny Dolphins three points. Great performance.
Ndifreke Effiong - Abia Warriors
I expect Effiong to stop the other team from scoring, not to be scoring the winner. What was he doing up there in open play so early in the game?
When a defender gets that confidence to score a goal and then keeps his opposing attackers at bay in a game, he deserves a place here.
Halilu Obadeki - Kwara United
I had to see it to believe it. Never have I seen this kind of complete performance from the left-back.
The build up from the defence to the attack was extraordinary. Obadeki ran his heart out throughout the game.
On how he made the run into the Lobi area to bend a brilliant cross to Segun Alebiosu was excellent.
Nojeem Raji - Giwa FC
For the second time this season, I’ve selected Nojeem for my Team of the Week after another sound performance, this time against Dolphins.
We normally associate good defending with sophisticated handling of the ball in defence but the former Enyimba star was just phenomenal at getting his body in the way in order to stop Dolphins getting shots in on goal.
Emmanuel Anyanwu - Enyimba
Enyimba fans have replaced the frown with a smile and the pregnant pauses with praise for this defender.
The former U20 and U23 star was simply outstanding. He was too quick and just too good in every department.
Dayo Ojo - Sunshine Stars
I’ve seen this player perform heroics for Sunshine Stars this season and I think the Akure based club would struggle to keep hold of such talent in future.
Dayo’s mesmerizing passes, the zig zag runs and vision was what Kano Pillars couldn’t deal with.
Paul Onobi - Sunshine Stars
Under coach Kennedy Boboye, he now seem to know what precisely is required from a player of his calibre.
His first goal was crucial.
Sani Kaita - Ifeanyi Uba FC
Sani Kaita showed a great sense of vision, awareness and intelligence throughout the game.
We know he has the talent but Ifeanyi Uba was the only club prepared to invest in it and now they are getting the reward.
It was a near perfect performance from the ex-Monaco midfielder against Elkanemi Warriors.
Bright Onyedikachi - Ifeanyi Uba FC
Kachy’s greatest asset is his pace and with that he used incredibly in the game. He threatened to hurt Elkanemi Warriors earlier in the game, but they didn’t heed the warnings and it was clear he wasn’t going to miss the target a second time, before he completed his brace in the second stanza.
This young man was a prodigious talent at Dynamite Force and he looks like he may fulfill all his promise at Ifeanyi Uba FC.
Solomon Eludi - Ifeanyi Uba FC
Took control of the opposition upfront and refused to give them any room or chance to progress down field. Caused problems up front, scoring a double.
Godwin Obaje - Wikki Tourists
Nothing would give me greater pleasure than extolling the virtues of this strong youngster who has risen to fame so quick at Wikki Tourists.
He maintains that he doesn’t feel the pressure and just plays football to enjoy it. Well, it certainly looks that way.
Obaje took his two goals brilliantly in the 3-0 win against Sharks.
