Ex Nigeria International Samson Godwin Reveals Majority Of Super Eagles Players Pay Bribe To Make Team
Published: April 03, 2015Retired Nigerian footballer Samson Godwin has claimed that several players in the Super Eagles are not invited on merit, saying they usually bribe team officials to make the squad.
Now 31, the ex Gabros midfielder managed to win one cap for Nigeria before hanging up his boots, and that solitary appearance came in an international friendly against Jamaica back in 2003.
“I played that game very well and was hoping that I will seize the opportunity, but in Nigeria there is very bad football politics.
“Everyone knows that the players pay money to play in the team. And to me my conscience does not allow it,” Godwin told tribuna.com
He went on : “If I know I’m a good player, why should I pay money to play in the team? All this continues to this day. This is Nigeria.
“There are Nigerian footballers who are a hundred times better than those who now play in the team. Maybe they have the same character as me. ”
Asked if Stephen Keshi demands bribe from players before inviting them to the national team, Godwin answered : “I do not know whether he takes personally. He has many assistants and managers. ”
Godwin represented teams in Ukraine, Poland, Kazakhstan and Belarus before calling time on his career in 2013.
