1000 Players Storm Atiba United Recruiting Ground
Published: January 09, 2015As the new entrant to Nigeria National League (NNL), Atiba United commences its recruitment for the fast approaching soccer season; more than 1000 footballers invaded Oyo State College of Education, the screening ground of the team to fight for a place in the club that requires the services of just 30 players.
The head of local government administration, Atiba, Chief James Odeniran who disclosed this to newsmen in Oyo stated that the team had secured the services of seasoned coaches and ex-players that would carefully select the best out of the many players.
Odeniran also assured on the survival of the team that is being financed by a local government, saying Atiba United has become a legacy to the entire people of Oyo because this is the first time in history, that Oyo town would have a team in the professional cadre of Nigerian League.
“The four local government councils in the city of Oyo, namely: Afijio, Oyo-west, Oyo-East and the Atiba LG has forge a common front to work together for the sustainability of the team in the NNL, so there shouldn’t be too much apprehension in the minds of the teeming football followers in Oyo as regards the survival of Atiba United.
“Though we have written to the state government to adopt the team as it was done to the other sisters club in the state, talking of Shooting Stars of Ibadan and Crown FC of Ogbomoso, but pending the determination of that, I can assure you that the team will stay afloat”, the retired FIFA referee noted.
The former acting Chairman of Oyo State Football Association however kept the identity of who is likely to be employ as the new chief coach for the team close to his chest but other sources from the team also dispelled the likelihood of employing another coach.
“Coach Kabiru Adedokun, popularly known as KB who piloted the team from the nationwide right to the NNL should be giving a chance to proof himself moreover he has even shown positive attributes which made us believe that
he’s more than capable to do the job”, the source who spoke on the condition of anonymity noted.
Meanwhile there is tendency that Olumide Ojebode, the son of late 3SC player and manager Samuel Ojebode will join Amuda Olatunji and Sunday Idowu as an assistant to Coach KB in the new season.
