Kenneth Omeruo Glad To Score In Penalty Shootout Loss To Liverpool
Published: September 25, 2014Middlesbrough central defender Kenneth Omeruo has spoken about his side’s loss to Liverpool via penalties in the third round of the League Cup.
After regulation and extra time failed to produce a winner, 30 penalty kicks had to be played to decide the outcome, with the Nigeria international taking one of the spot kicks.
“When it went to sudden death I was talking to Yanic and he said ‘you go first’ and I did.
“I didn’t even look at the keeper when I took my penalty – I just went for power and hit it.
“Luckily I scored but it looked like it was going to keep going and I am glad I didn’t have to do it a second time,” the Chelsea loanee was quoted as saying by gazettelive.co.uk.
Kenneth Omeruo has thanked the approximately 2,800 Boro supporters that made the trip to Anfield to cheer the team.
“It was a great atmosphere and great support.
“Everyone was fighting and it got to a stage where we gave everything but I think the support from the fans helped us a lot – they kept going even when we were losing and gave us a buzz.”
The Super Eagles stopper is on loan at Boro from Chelsea until the end of the 2014 - 2015 season.
