Gov. Mimiko Has Genuine Interest For Grassroots Soccer Development -Akinbobola
Published: September 15, 2014Ondo State has been tipped to dominate Nigerian grassroots football scene in the very nearest future, considering the foundation the state has laid down for the development of the round leather trough the establishment of a Football Agency by Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
Explaining this was the Director of Ondo State Football Agency, Mr. Akin Akinbobola at the final of the maiden National Under-14 Soccer Tourney recently concluded in Odigbo local government, Ore.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the grassroots competition designed to engage the pupils during school’s long vacation,
Akinbobola said soon the whole world would begin to see the positive results of the kind of vision Gov. Mimiko has for grassroots football development.
“It’s only at the grassroots that a solid base can be laid for sincere football development, which would definitely bring appreciable returns, both financially and otherwise.
“I must commend A Square Sports who organized this and every stakeholder in Ore here that supported it financially.
“All these are just complementing the good foundation our sports loving Governor has laid down for grassroots soccer development in Ondo which I’m sure would soon translate to positive result”, Akinbobola noted.
Team from Federal Capital Territory emerged winner of the maiden tourney after defeating Edo State by a lone at the final witnessed dignitaries that included Chairman of Odigbo Local Government, Hon. Felix Akintunde, former Green Eagles and IICC FC, goalkeeper, Zion Ogunfeyimi among others.
