Austin Ejide Admits Eagles Thought It Would Be A Stroll In The Park
Published: September 06, 2014African champions Nigeria were brought back to reality following their 3 - 2 loss to unfancied Congo in Calabar on Saturday.
In his post match comments, stand in skipper Austin Ejide has admitted that the Super Eagles had thought it would be a stroll in the park before the meeting at the U.J Esuene Stadium.
“It’s unfortunate that we lost this game, they were well prepared. You could see they were aggressive, and they came all out, you could see the fire coming out their eyes, they were coming for war.
“But our reaction was very poor in the second half, this is a lesson, it’s a wake up call to all of us, so we have to work very hard and in Johannesburg we will pick the three points up.
“Yes we were (over - confident), If you see the way the game went, we were very slow and they were very aggressive at our home ground, they were playing as if they were in Brazzavill,” the Hapoel Beer Sheva goalkeeper said.
Nigeria will square off against South Africa on Wednesday, September 10 in their second group fixture.
