Counsel To Rashidi Yekini Expresses Fear Over Kwara United
Published: July 07, 2014Following the crashing out of the Ilorin darling team, Kwara United from this year’s Challenge Cup at the round of 32, a lover and ardent fan of the team Jubril Mohammed who also the lawyer to the late goal-king Rashidi Yekini has expressed apprehension over the continued existence of the team.
While reacting on the plight of the Afonja Warriors, the former Kwara Academicals player told the sporting press in Ibadan that the present state of the club appeared worrisome to him because the team might gradually goes into oblivion if urgent measure is not taken by all football stakeholders in the State.
Kwara United F.C that got relegated to the second division in Nigerian football, the Nigeria National League after 2013 soccer season is placed second with 30 points as against to Wikki Tourist that is topping the table with 35 points while Niger Tornadoes, Mighty Jets and Spotlight FC closely follow Kwara United with 29 points respectively.
“We are looking forward to see Kwara United posting a good outing in this year’s Federations Cup as we used to see from the team in recent years, but now lost on Penalties to Sharks FC after playing 1-1 at regulation time at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin in a round of 32.
“It’s such a long time ago that Kwara United will not play the in final phase of Challenge Cup. I think this is calling for concern
among football stakeholders in the State.
“I’m much concerned, because the two teams I cherished and I followed in Nigerian League are 3SC and Kwara United, 3SC is beaming with the hope of coming back to the elite cadre by leading its group but same cannot be said about Kwara United.
“I will like to call on our executive Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and the commissioner for youths and sports, Prince Saheed Popoola to step up their efforts in bringing back the club to its glorious status that we all Kwarans are proud of”, the Ibadan based legal practitioner noted.
