Abdulwaheed Afolabi Makes Cameo Appearance As Gabala Lose Cup Final
Published: May 23, 2014Former Flying Eagles striker Abdulwaheed Afolabi waited until the second half of extra time before his introduction in the final of the Azerbaijan Cup between his team Gabala and Neftci.
Normal and extra time failed to produce a winner, with the scoreline reading 1 - 1, thus, a penalty shootout had to decide the outcome of the meeting.
Neftci were luckier than their opponents, converting three of their kicks while Gabala could only find target two times.
After finishing in third position in the Premier League, Gabala are one of Azerbaijan’s representatives in the Europa League and they will start in the first qualifying round.
Afolabi, whose contract expires at the end of this season, scored only 1 goal in the championship and another in the Cup clash against Mil-Muan last December.
