Maurice Edu Makes Team USA Provisional Squad, As Onyewu Is Ignored
Published: May 12, 2014USA manager, Jurgen Klinsmann published his provisional World Cup list made up of 30 players on Monday.
It was always going to be a tough call for Klinsmann to include Oguchi Onyewu, who has Nigerian roots, on his roster after making 20 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday, Queens Park Rangers and Malaga over the pas two seasons.
But he has handed an invitation to another Nigerian born player, Maurice Edu of Philadelphia Union , and if he makes the 23 - man list which will be submitted to Fifa on or before June 2, it would be his second appearance at the World Cup.
Maurice Edu, ex Glasgow Rangers and Stoke City midfielder, is credited with 46 caps for Team USA.
Nigeria will trade tackles with the United States in a tune - up game on Saturday, June 7.
