Kennedy Igboananike Ready To Play For Sweden After Acquiring Passport
Published: March 27, 2014AIK attacking star Kennedy Igboananike has become a Swedish citizen after living in the country for about 7 years.
Last year, the highly coveted player netted 14 goals in 29 appearances in his debut season for AIK.
“It became clear yesterday, Kennedy has had a Swedish passport. That’s good news because he could be with the Swedish national team if he becomes a part. He is willing to play for Sweden if he gets it. It is interesting to him, ” says Innocent Okeke to Fotbolltransfers.com.
The 25-year-old striker has two years left on his contract with AIK but it is highly uncertain whether he remains until he comes off contract.
English, Turkish and Russian clubs have been interested and becoming a Swedish citizen brings substantial benefits.
“Now he has the opportunity to go to many more countries. Unless one is from an EU country and wants to be in England, for example, you have to play 75 percent of international matches for your national team.
“To sign as a non-EU player in Holland you have to earn at least 50 000 a month in salary. In Italy, one can only take in a small number of non-EU players and then he competes with players from South America, Russia and so on.
“There are obstacles in each country, but now they disappear for him,” adds Innocent Okeke.
“But he must also continue to deliver. The goal is that he will be better this year than last year. That he makes a better season than last year. Being able to improve everything.
“That’s what we’ve talked about. Then he’ll be able to have a chance to take the next step.”
In addition to his stint at AIK, Kennedy Igboananike previously represented Djurgårdens IF and Vasalunds IF.
