Published: March 19, 2014Spanish club Deportivo de La Coruña have set the wheels in motion in their bid to sign Nigeria Under 17 international Chigozie Obasi, allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report.
The 15 - year - old midfielder put himself in the shop window after a string of fine performances in the games he played for the Golden Eaglets at the World Cup.
And despite being on the radar of some of the big teams in Europe, the product of FOSLA Academy has picked Deportivo de La Coruña ahead of other suitors.
“I have always wanted to play in Spain as I admire Xavi and Iniesta. So when the offer came from Deportivo de La Coruña , I did not have to think twice.
“I have confidence in my own abilities and I believe I will do well at Deportivo de La Coruña.
“They are playing in the Segunda Division now but La Coruña are one of the traditional teams in Spain and I am delighted to start my professional career with this great club,” Chigozie Obasi told allnigeriasoccer.com.
The deal was brokered by Oliver Noah of Noga Sports Management in partnership with Dominic Egbukwu of Soccer Sports Management Limited.
Chigozie Obasi will leave for Spain in the coming days when he gets green - light from the embassy at 21C Kofo Abayomi Road Victoria Island.
It should be noted that the youngster will not be in Spain to attend trials as he is only going there to inspect the facilities of the club, discuss financial terms of the contract and undergo a traditional medical.
