Turkish Federation Might Cancel Emenike Goal Number 9
Published: March 11, 2014In the disputed match between Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor staged at the Hüseyin Avni Aker Stadium on Monday evening, Emmanuel Emenike scored the only goal of the tie before it was called off due to safety concerns.
Though it should be noted that the Nigeria international had been on the sidelines for most part of February after picking up an injury against Konyaspor on January 27, his goal on 23 minutes was his first this calender year.
Despite referee Bulent Yildirim awarding the goal to Emmanuel Emenike in his match report, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) is likely to overrule the decision of the official in the coming days.
Since the match was abandoned after supporters of Trabzonspor threw objects to the field, the Disciplinary Committee of the Federation is expected to cancel the scoreline and hand a 3 - 0 win to Fenerbache.
Using past precedent as a guide, earlier this season Galatasaray were awarded three points and three goals following disturbances in the clash with city rivals Besiktas.
Not taking into account yesterday’s events, Emmanuel Emenike has recorded 8 goals (5 assists) in the Super League this season.
After 23 matches played, Fenerbahce lead the standings in Turkey with 51 points, 3 more than champions Galatasary who have played a game more.
The Yellow Canaries will host relegation candidates Kayseri Erciyesspor on Sunday.
