U18 PL: John Terry and Cole Palmer in attendance as five Nigerians feature for Chelsea in loss to Norwich
Published: May 04, 2024Chelsea's wait for the U18 Premier League title, southern section continued after a narrow 2-1 loss to Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.
The young Blues were five points ahead of nearest challengers West Ham United heading into the game and knew a win would see them crowned champions of the southern section with two games to spare, but have to wait for three more days for another potential deciding game.
Former Chelsea captain John Terry and the club's leading scorer for the 2023-2024 season Cole Palmer were spotted watching today's clash at the Cobham Training Center.
Palmer, who has recovered from the illness that made him miss the trip to Arsenal last month, had time on his hands as
as Chelsea's first team isn't scheduled to play until Sunday afternoon when they face West Ham in a Premier League London derby.
Chelsea's U18 Nigerian coach Hassan Sulaiman handed minutes to five Nigerian teenagers, with Somto Boniface, Landon Emenalo and Saheed Olagunju named in the starting lineup, while Tayo Subuloye and Rio Ngumoha entered the game as substitutes in the second half.
Alex Roberts broke the deadlock four minutes before halftime when he rounded the Chelsea goalkeeper.
After missing a spot kick, Donnell McNeilly made amends by scoring the equalizer just past the hour mark.
Five minutes from time, Roberts grabbed his brace after combining with Jaiden Owen.
Chelsea could wrap up the title with a win against Southampton on Tuesday, four days before their final game In the regular season against Arsenal.
