Inter Milan interested in signing Nigeria's youngest-ever UEFA Champions League scorer
Published: May 03, 2024Serie A champions Inter Milan are interested in signing Nigeria's youngest-ever UEFA Champions League scorer George Ilenikhena.
The 17-year-old became the youngest Nigerian to ever score in a Champions League game when he registered a goal in Royal Antwerp's 3-2 victory over Barcelona in December.
According to Gazetta dello Sport via FC Inter News, the Nerazzurri are now keeping tabs on the Lagos-born striker and are aware that there will be competition for his signature in the summer.
With Alexis Sánchez contract expiring in the summer, the Italian giants want to add another forward to their squad to make up for the impending departure of the former Arsenal forward.
Ilenikhena joined Royal Antwerp last summer and seems to have caught attention with his performances for the defending Jupiler Pro League champions.
He was previously linked with Premier League giants Manchester United but that has been thrown in the bin by transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano.
Despite failing to nail a starting spot in Royal Antwerp's starting lineup, he has scored 14 goals and provided one assist across all competitions this season.
Should he join Inter Milan, he could also fail to get adequate game time with Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram being the first choice strikers in Simone Inzaghi's two-man striking force.
