In Finidi George's first game in the dugout, the Super Eagles registered their first win over Ghana in eighteen years courtesy of strikes from Cyriel Dessers and Ademola Lookman, while Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew scored a consolation in stoppage time.
The Super Eagles have not lost to Mali since suffering a 4-1 defeat to their West African rivals in September 1975.
Of the eleven times both nations have faced off, the Super Eagles have gotten the better of the Malians, having registered six wins compared to Mali's two, while the two countries have drawn three games.
